what you need to know about:  YOUR BARBIZON PHOTO SHOOT

Your Barbizon photo shoot is geared to putting your Barbizon education into a practical setting.  The photos from this shoot are going to be headshots, ½ length, ¾ length, full length, standing &/or sitting.  The photographer will help you with your poses but you should be prepared with at least 10-15 poses for each of your 2 outfits.  As you know, you get to pick out 1 free picture to begin your portfolio.  If you choose to purchase additional pictures you can discuss this at the viewing.  Barbizon is not here to "do" your portfolio.  Portfolios are developed over time, not just done by spending money.  Barbizon can always refer you to other outside photographers to help you "build your book".

You can call to schedule your photo shoot the first Monday of every month.  If there is a holiday on the first Monday, we will have the schedule on the following Monday.  You have up to two years after your graduation date to take your photo shoot.

** Only Pre-teen students (6-10 yrs old) can have (1) adult in dressing room to help them.

No professional hair or make-up artists allowed in school for photo shoots.

What you need to bring:

     1) 2 changes of clothing (different styles) casual, stylish or sportswear.  Be sure to include any accessories such as shoes, belts, props for each outfit.  Remember, we are not selling the clothes here-- we are trying to advertise you!  This goes for your outfits, jewelry, hair, and make-up.  Also, try to stay away from small, delicate patterns such as stripes, herringbone, or tweeds-- they are just too busy and take away from you in the picture.  Keep the jewelry small and tasteful!!

     2) Bring complete hair & make-up needs-- you will have some time between outfits to adjust your hair & touch up your make-up.  How well you do will greatly affect the final pictures.  There will be no make-up or hair people helping you, and you can not bring one with you. Agents prefer a light, natural look as opposed to full evening make-up.

After your shoot:

     1) You will schedule an appointment to return and view your images on a computer screen.  This is when you can pick out your free picture and any others you may wish to purchase.  If you are under 18 years of age you must have a parent to pick out the free print. Note: your total balance with BARBIZON must be $100.00 or less to view your pictures.

     2) When your picture(s) is(are) ready you will get a phone call from BARBIZON asking you to come in and pick up your picture(s).  To register with the BARBIZON placement service (agency), go to the home page of this website, complete and submit (including upload images) the BARBIZON GRADUATE APPLICATION in the middle of the page.  The BARBIZON placement service (agency) is a non-exclusive service.  You should get representation with as many non-exclusive agencies as you can.  The more representation you have, the better your opportunities for work.  Keep in mind that there are lots of places out there posing as agents who really only sell you other products you don't need.  Real models use a portfolio called a Paris press book (no zippers, no handles, no leather w/gold initials).  Model's supplies can be bought at the BARBIZON boutique (FOR BEST PRICE).  Beware!!  The only thing you want from an agent is representation!!  This should cost you money only if you make money.  The normal percentage in NYC is 20%.  Be careful if an agent tries to sell you photos or composite cards-- that is what photographers and printers do. An agent will do it for you but charge you an extra 25% fee or more!  Be professional, on time & friendly.  Be sure you understand go-sees, call backs, call times, voucher's and model's releases.
